San Mateo voters can question City Council candidates in person when the League of Women Voters of North & Central San Mateo County hosts a forum on Thursday, Oct. 1.
The event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at San Mateo City Hall, 330 W. 20th Ave. Voters who can't make it in person can watch via Zoom, though the city listed the virtual meeting link as "coming soon" on its forum page as of Sept. 17.
Three of the council's five district seats are on the Nov. 3 ballot. It will be only the second time San Mateo has elected council members by district. The city held its first by-district election in 2022, according to the city's election page.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization. Its local chapter covers North and Central San Mateo County.
The city's election page lists the following candidates:
- District 1: Taso Zografos and Lisa Diaz Nash
- District 3: Seema Patel and Robert G. Newsom Jr.
- District 5: Dave Johnson, Adam Loraine and Dana Yates Sahae
Six candidates are confirmed across the three races, with the District 5 field the largest at three.
Residents can submit questions in advance by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "San Mateo CC." A brief in-person question-and-answer session will also take place during the forum.
Beyond the three council races, all San Mateo voters will weigh in on two citywide ballot measures in November. Measure H would impose a quarter-cent transactions and use sales tax. Measure F proposes a package of amendments to the city charter.
