The City of San Mateo has completed pedestrian safety upgrades along Alameda de las Pulgas near Aragon High School, the city announced on X on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
At Nevada Avenue, Kentucky Avenue and Aragon Boulevard, signals now stop all vehicles while pedestrians cross Alameda de las Pulgas. Drivers are also prohibited from turning right on red, according to the city’s transportation safety page.
Crews installed curbs and posts along the centerline to slow left turns, along with red curbs restricting parking near crosswalks.
A fourth intersection at Hobart Avenue received new crossing signs, yield markings and red curbs.
The city described the work as completing “safer routes to Aragon High.”
The city advised drivers to allow extra travel time because the pedestrian signal phases may mean longer waits.
