San Mateo residents can weigh in on the preferred renovation design for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center at a Zoom session Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Two more public meetings on the project are scheduled later this month.

The City of San Mateo will host a Zoom session on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to review the concept. The meeting link and presentation materials are posted on the city's project page. Interpretation in Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese will be available. The project is also on the agenda for the Parks and Recreation Commission's Sept. 2 meeting and a City Council special meeting Sept. 22.

The city and design firm ELS Architecture and Urban Design presented the preferred concept at an in-person workshop on Aug. 27 at the center, 725 Monte Diablo Ave. The design grew out of two earlier community workshops held in July and August, resident surveys and meetings with city staff.

The project covers pool and locker room renovations at the aging facility and a new resiliency center to support residents during emergencies.

No project budget, funding source or construction timeline has been announced.
