Aragon's girls volleyball team sits in first place in the Peninsula Athletic League Bay Division after a five-set road win over Carlmont on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The Dons won 25-22, 25-19, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12, according to MaxPreps. The victory improved Aragon to 14-6 overall and 5-1 in league play, putting the Dons first in the PAL Bay standings. It was Aragon's fourth consecutive win.

Aragon took the first two sets before Carlmont responded by winning the third and fourth, forcing a deciding fifth set. The Dons closed out the match 15-12.

Junior outside hitter Poppy McKenzie finished with 17 kills, 14 digs and two solo blocks, according to MaxPreps. Sophia Lugtu added 24 assists, 10 digs and three aces, according to MaxPreps.

The win adds to a strong stretch for a program that entered the season trying to end a long league-title drought. Aragon has not won the Bay Division since 2014, according to a Sept. 17 Aragon Outlook season preview.

The Dons are also the defending Central Coast Section Division II champions. Aragon beat Monta Vista 3-1 in the 2025 final and has won three of the past four CCS Division II championships.

Head coach Annette Gennaro acknowledged before the season that Aragon's recent success would make the Dons a target.

"Every game is tough. Everyone's out to get Aragon," Gennaro told the Aragon Outlook.

Aragon returned several all-league players this season. McKenzie and senior setter Devyn Lee were first-team selections in 2025, while senior outside hitter Caitlyn Robertson earned second-team honors.

The Dons return home Thursday, Oct. 1, to host Hillsdale at 5:45 p.m., according to Aragon's official athletics schedule.
