Noah Marcelo, a 25-year-old center fielder who grew up playing ball in San Mateo County, will start for the West Division in the American Association All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 15, in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced the selection, making Marcelo one of the top players in the American Association, a 12-team MLB Partner League, in his first season with the club.
Marcelo's baseball roots run deep in the area. He played for the Belmont-Redwood Shores Little League All-Star team that, in 2013, became the first District 52 squad to reach the Little League West Region tournament in San Bernardino. That team fell one win short of the Little League World Series, losing in the region final.
He went on to Serra High School, graduating in spring 2019 after two seasons with Serra's Padres. At Serra, he showed contact skills but never hit a home run.
Then came the detour. Marcelo enrolled at Skyline College and was batting .388 with three homers in 20 games when the 2020 season shut down due to COVID-19. He resurfaced in 2022 at Western Arizona College, slugging 10 home runs with 54 RBIs in 56 games and stealing 27 bases.
"It must be baseball karma," San Mateo Daily Journal sports editor Nathan Mollat wrote Thursday, July 9. "Just as we wrap up the District 52 All-Star tournaments, I got an email from the Winnipeg Goldeyes with a blast from the past."
Marcelo turned pro in 2022 with the Glacier Range Riders of the Pioneer League. After 13 games there, he joined the Boise Hawks, spending three seasons in Boise. His breakout came in 2025 with the Hawks: a .351 average, 12 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a Pioneer League-leading 64 stolen bases in 96 games.
The Goldeyes acquired Marcelo on September 15, 2025, and he signed with Winnipeg on January 8. He has rewarded the move. Through 46 games as of late June, Marcelo leads the Goldeyes in hits (59) and RBIs (42), with 10 home runs and 19 stolen bases while being caught only twice. His numbers rank third in the league in RBIs, tied for sixth in home runs, and tenth in steals, according to the team's press release.
Over five professional seasons, Marcelo owns a .307/.406/.434 slash line with an .840 OPS and 338 career hits.
The All-Star Game takes place Wednesday, July 15, in Lincoln, Nebraska, home of the Lincoln Saltdogs.
