Serra's football team rolled to a 28-0 shutout of Sacred Heart Cathedral on Saturday, Oct. 17, at City College of San Francisco, pushing the Padres' winning streak to six games.
The victory keeps Serra unbeaten in West Catholic Athletic League play at 4-0 and improves the Padres to 6-1 overall, according to MaxPreps. Serra has outscored opponents 246-109 on the season and has not lost an away game, going 4-0 on the road.
It was the fourth straight lopsided WCAL win for the San Mateo school. Serra opened league play with a 45-13 win over Bellarmine College Prep on Sept. 25, beat Valley Christian 50-19 on Oct. 3 and routed Archbishop Mitty 49-14 on Oct. 10. The Padres' only loss came in the season opener, a 35-25 defeat to De La Salle on Aug. 28.
Sacred Heart Cathedral entered the game with a 1-2 league record under head coach Darius Bell, according to Tamer Muhawieh’s Oct. 11 newsletter. Bell previously served as Serra’s offensive coordinator, according to Sacred Heart Cathedral’s hiring announcement. The Padres held Sacred Heart Cathedral scoreless.
Serra's JV team delivered its own shutout Saturday. Serra Athletics posted on X that the JV squad beat Sacred Heart Cathedral 42-0.
What's ahead
The schedule gets tougher. Serra hosts St. Ignatius on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. in another WCAL matchup.
The biggest test looms Oct. 31, when the Padres travel to Archbishop Riordan. The Crusaders beat Archbishop Mitty 22-7 on Friday, Oct. 16, according to the Mercury News. Riordan ended Serra's WCAL championship and Central Coast Section Open Division title hopes last season, as documented in Riordan’s 2025 results. Muhawieh’s Oct. 11 report listed senior Adonyae Brown as Riordan’s leading rusher at 104.5 yards per game. If both teams remain undefeated in league play, the Oct. 31 game could decide the WCAL title.
Serra closes the regular season at home against Saint Francis on Nov. 7.
