Hundreds of San Mateo residents will turn their driveways into storefronts Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, when the city's annual Citywide Yard Sale returns for two days of neighborhood treasure hunting.

But sellers need to act fast. The registration deadline is Friday, July 24, according to the city's official event page.

The city's Sustainability Department organizes the sale each year as part of San Mateo's Zero Waste goals, encouraging residents to keep usable items out of the landfill by selling, swapping or giving them to neighbors. The event runs 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, rain or shine.

How to sell

Residents with a San Mateo address can register online through a Survey123 form linked from the city's Citywide Yard Sale page at cityofsanmateo.org/3034. Sellers choose to participate one or both days. Once registered, their address appears on a live interactive ArcGIS map that shoppers can browse to plan their routes.

A static PDF list of participants was published July 22 but reflects only registrations received by that date. The live map will continue updating through the deadline.

How to shop

No registration is needed for buyers. Pull up the interactive map on your phone Saturday or Sunday morning and plot a route through your neighborhood or across town. Each listing shows which day the seller is open.

After the sale

The city encourages sellers to donate unsold items rather than toss them. San Mateo County's Waste Reduction Resources page at sustainability.smcgov.org lists local donation and e-recycling options. RethinkWaste, a regional agency serving 11 San Mateo County communities, also promotes recirculating items through donation to organizations like Samaritan House in San Mateo.

Local donation centers listed in the county's 2026 Reduce/Reuse/Recycle Guide include Samaritan House at 4031 Pacifica Blvd., Goodwill, St. Vincent de Paul, and Turnstyle Thrift Store at 60 N. B St.
