More than 30 artist vendors, live mural painting and a poetry open mic will take over B Street in downtown San Mateo on Saturday, Sept. 26. The September Arts & Culture Fest runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and admission is free.

The fest is presented by the San Mateo Area Chamber of Commerce, the San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture and the Downtown San Mateo Association, according to the event's official page.

The second annual Mural Madness competition anchors the lineup. Emerging muralists will paint live on Baldwin Avenue at B Street from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. under the theme "Community: Resilience." According to the event page, the competition gives emerging muralists a chance to learn from a professional and gain visibility in the community.

A poetry open mic takes over Fog Bird, at 144 South B St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Each poet gets up to five minutes, with preference given to those who live or perform in San Mateo County.

More than 30 vendors will sell original work along B Street. The lineup includes painters, photographers, ceramicists, jewelers and fiber artists, with a preference for San Mateo County-based creators. Among the featured vendors are Aaron Alvarez Mendoza of Aaron's Photography, Maria Belilovskaya of Colors4Love, Ming-Ching Chu of Chu Chu Pottery and Sara Valderrama of S. Valdy Art.

Live bands and cultural performances will run on a stage that accommodates groups of up to 15 performers, with a maximum set time of 20 minutes. Performing artists will be compensated. The schedule also includes interactive kids' activities.
