The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors will consider up to $24.3 million in affordable housing funding and a temporary moratorium on new or expanded detention and correctional facilities Tuesday.
The meeting begins at 9 a.m. Aug. 25 at the Board of Supervisors Chambers, 500 County Center in Redwood City. Remote participation is also available through the county’s Board of Supervisors webpage.
$24.3 million for affordable housing
Supervisors will consider committing up to $24,347,311 for affordable housing projects.
The proposed allocation includes $24,247,311 in Measure K funding and $100,000 in County Impact Fees. The item requires a majority vote.
Detention facility moratorium
Supervisors will also consider an interim urgency ordinance temporarily blocking the siting, construction, conversion or operation of new or expanded detention and correctional facilities in unincorporated San Mateo County.
The proposal follows an Aug. 11 unanimous vote directing staff to draft a temporary moratorium and develop longer-term regulations, as reported by the San Mateo Daily Journal.
The urgency ordinance requires a four-fifths vote. County staff also recommends holding a public hearing within 45 days of adoption to consider extending the temporary moratorium.
