San Mateo County Health is offering free flu shots to uninsured residents at the College of San Mateo on Saturday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 14, with no appointment, identification or insurance required.
The walk-in clinics run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Health and Wellness Building, third floor, at 1700 W. Hillsdale Blvd. High-dose flu vaccines will be available for adults 65 and older, according to the county.
The college clinics are open to people ages 3 and older, according to the county’s clinic calendar.
“Flu can cause serious illness, especially for young children, older adults and people with underlying health conditions,” said Dr. Kismet Baldwin-Santana, San Mateo County health officer. “Getting vaccinated now is one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and the people around you before holiday gatherings begin.”
County health officials recommend an annual flu shot for everyone age 6 months and older. They say vaccination helps prevent severe cases, hospital stays and deaths. Groups at greater risk include young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with certain chronic conditions.
Age requirements vary by clinic location. Some sites cannot vaccinate children younger than 2 or 3. Residents should check smchealth.org/flu for specific age limits before attending.
The county directs insured residents to their health care provider or pharmacy for vaccination. Most insurance plans, including Medi-Cal, cover flu shots, according to the county.
