A 29-year-old man who attacked a patron at a fast food restaurant and grabbed the victim's phone to prevent a 911 call was sentenced to three years in state prison, the San Mateo County District Attorney announced Tuesday, Aug. 18.
Tijon Jacques Dajour Ammons was denied probation after a jury found him guilty of felony assault with a deadly weapon, witness dissuasion and battery, according to the DA's office.
San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies arrested Ammons in February 2025 following the altercation. The DA's office said Ammons attacked the patron and seized the victim's cellphone when the victim attempted to call police. That act formed the basis of the witness dissuasion charge.
A jury returned its guilty verdict in July. Ammons remained in custody awaiting sentencing, which the DA's office announced July 9 was originally scheduled for Aug. 3.
The DA's office did not identify the restaurant or its location within San Mateo County. The type of weapon involved in the assault charge was also not disclosed.
