A Korean-style dessert shop began serving its first customers on South San Mateo Drive on Tuesday, Aug. 25, adding another food option to downtown San Mateo.

Hey Yogurt launched its soft opening at 310 S. San Mateo Dr., according to a Downtown San Mateo Association event listing. The shop will be open daily from 3 to 8 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 30.

The first 20 customers on Aug. 25 and Wednesday, Aug. 26, arriving between 3 and 3:30 p.m. will receive a free yogurt. An Instagram promotion also runs through the soft-opening window: snap a photo in-store, tag @heyyogurtus with #sanmateo and show the post to staff for a free tote bag, hand towel or blanket while supplies last.

A formal grand opening is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1, according to the brand's website. Regular hours after the soft-opening period have not been announced.

Hey Yogurt specializes in yogurt smoothies in fruit, grain, classic and matcha flavors, plus bingsu, croffles (croissant-waffle hybrids) and Boston pie. The San Mateo location is part of a broader U.S. expansion that includes shops in Texas and Georgia.
