Free live jazz fills B Street & Vine every weekend evening, giving downtown San Mateo residents a no-cost reason to linger on the pedestrian corridor after dinner.

The wine bar and Italian restaurant at 320 S B St. hosts local jazz musicians and ensembles from 6 to 9 p.m., according to the Downtown San Mateo Association's event calendar. There is no cover charge. The DSMA calendar lists the nights as Friday and Saturday; the venue's own Instagram page lists Friday and Sunday. Residents should confirm the current schedule directly with B Street & Vine at (650) 347-8463 before heading out.

Guests can pair the music with the venue's signature paninis, custom bruschetta platters and a full bar of wine, beer and cocktails.

B Street & Vine has operated in the same spot for more than 17 years, making it one of the longest-running businesses on a block that has transformed since the city closed B Street to cars in late 2021. Foot traffic on the pedestrian mall rose 20% between 2024 and 2025, and 120% since 2023, according to Palo Alto Online.

The recurring jazz nights are part of a broader push by the Downtown San Mateo Association to keep the car-free stretch active with live programming. In a June 23 ABC7 report on the district's revival, DSMA representative Mackenzie Jakoubek said, "With the increase to the money, we were able to do a lot of pop up events like jazz trios, we had a ukulele jam a couple of months ago and also some larger events."

The investment appears to be paying off. Fifty new businesses opened downtown in 2025, bringing the district to roughly 600 total, the association reported.

The venue also runs a happy hour Tuesday through Saturday from 3 to 6 p.m. with discounts on select food and drinks. The space is intimate. No reservations are required for jazz nights.
