A 34-year-old East Palo Alto man was killed Saturday, July 11, on Skyline Boulevard in San Mateo County when a speeding Porsche crossed into his lane and struck him head-on, the California Highway Patrol said.
The San Mateo County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Jakub Solovsky.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on State Route 35, the winding two-lane highway that runs along the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains. CHP investigators said the Porsche was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, crossed into the southbound lane and hit the oncoming cyclist.
Solovsky died at the scene.
The Porsche driver, the car's sole occupant, was not injured, according to CHP. Investigators said drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. CHP has not released the driver's name, the Porsche's model, or the specific location on SR 35 where the collision occurred.
The collision remains under investigation. CHP has not announced a timeline for completing its inquiry or indicated whether the driver will face charges.

State Route 35 is popular with recreational cyclists and drivers of sports cars and motorcycles, particularly on weekends. The road's tight curves and limited sightlines along the Santa Cruz Mountains ridgeline have contributed to a history of serious crashes. Caltrans has installed rumble strips and made intersection improvements along the route to address high crash rates in its curvy stretches.
Saturday's fatal collision adds to a pattern of speed-related incidents on the corridor. CHP's account describes a driver who entered a curve too fast and drifted across the center line into oncoming traffic, a scenario consistent with the road's known hazards for both drivers and cyclists sharing the narrow lanes.
No additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have been released. CHP has not said whether the driver was cited at the scene or whether the investigation could result in criminal charges.
