College of San Mateo volleyball stormed through the NorCal vs. SoCal Showcase with a 4-0 record, beating three state-ranked opponents.

The undefeated run at Fresno City College on Sept. 4-5 vaulted the Bulldogs seven spots to No. 5 in the state coaches association (3C2AWVCA) poll released Monday, Sept. 7. CSM entered the showcase ranked No. 12. Sophomore Synia Hunt earned state Player of the Week honors after piling up 47 kills across the four matches.

CSM opened Friday, Sept. 4, with a 3-1 win over then-No. 2 Long Beach City College (25-15, 27-25, 18-25, 25-18). Hunt, a 5-foot-10 opposite hitter from Saint Mary's High in Stockton, led the attack with 15 kills and a .355 hitting percentage. Madison Williams added 10 kills, and setter Leann Jung dished 24 assists with three aces. Shea Hanson anchored the defense with 13 digs.

The Bulldogs followed with a 3-0 sweep of No. 20 Bakersfield College (25-16, 25-14, 25-22). Hanson paced the offense at nine kills on a .471 clip, while Williams hit .615 with eight kills and zero errors.

Saturday's match against No. 5 San Diego Mesa went five sets. CSM dropped the first and third sets before rallying for a 15-13 win in the fifth. Hunt posted 13 kills (.353), and Katalina Tuipulotu added 12 (.323). Jung ran the floor with 32 assists.

CSM closed the showcase with a 3-1 win over Grossmont College. Hunt again led with 13 kills and a .478 hitting percentage. Reese Japic contributed 10 kills, and Alyssa Polanco recorded 19 assists and three aces.

The coaches association named Hunt one of three state Players of the Week on Monday, Sept. 7. She shared the honor with Los Angeles Mission's Madison Perry and Santa Monica's Mia Michele Whitlock. A returning All-Northern California Region selection, Hunt was also named to the All-Showcase Team.

The Bulldogs are 5-1. They play Sierra College at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the Delta Classic in Stockton.
