The California Highway Patrol opened an investigation into a pedestrian death on westbound Highway 92 near the San Mateo Bridge.

Officers found the person's body early Tuesday, Oct. 6, between Highway 101 and the Edgewater Isle/Mariner's Island on-ramp, according to Patch, citing CHP. The report said officers were called around 6:10 a.m. after receiving reports of a body on the highway.

The pedestrian was found under the Mariners Island Boulevard overpass, east of Highway 101, KRON4 reported.

The person was not immediately identified.

CHP said the pedestrian may have been hit by a vehicle but that investigators had not determined exactly what happened. CHP said determining the cause of death would require an initial examination by the San Mateo County Coroner's Office, according to Patch.

A CHP spokesperson told KRON4 that a witness described a possible white Ford pickup truck with a rack on the roof that stopped. The spokesperson said it was unknown whether the truck was involved.

Lane closures snarled morning commute

CHP closed the two far-right lanes of westbound Highway 92 to investigate and issued a Sig Alert warning of significant traffic delays, according to Patch.

All lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.

KRON4 reported that the investigation was ongoing in its Oct. 6 report. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the CHP Redwood City-area office at 650-779-2700.
