Clayroom San Mateo brings art market to Bay Meadows

Clayroom San Mateo and Caltrain are bringing a handmade ceramics and art market to Bay Meadows on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The event, called Art in the Meadows, runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Town Square, 3050 S Delaware St., Suite 100, steps from the Hillsdale Caltrain station. Shoppers can browse handmade ceramics and artwork from local artists, according to a Bay Meadows blog post announcing the collaboration.

Art in the Meadows is part of Caltrain's Transit Month, a September-long series of events across the Peninsula. Caltrain Executive Director Michelle Bouchard joined regional transit leaders at San Francisco City Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 1, to open the month.

In its Aug. 31 news release, Caltrain described Transit Month as a chance to recognize the employees, riders and communities the railroad connects. Bay Meadows, a transit-oriented neighborhood built around walkable streets and the Hillsdale station, called the market a special opportunity to highlight local talent and artisan products.

Clayroom San Mateo, a community-oriented creative studio in the Bay Meadows neighborhood, is organizing the market in collaboration with Caltrain. Organizers are encouraging attendees to ride Caltrain to the event rather than drive, since the Hillsdale station sits adjacent to Town Square.

The collaboration comes as Caltrain marks a milestone. In a July 30 news release announcing the agency's selection for an American Public Transportation Association award, Bouchard said, "Our newly electrified railroad is offering the best service this rail corridor has seen in 162 years."
